Hundreds of cats die each year because owners treat them with dog flea medication.
A chemical used in an over-the-counter dog flea treatment is fatal to one in ten cats and leaves 88% suffering convulsions. The insecticide - permethrin - is so dangerous that cats will fall sick by sharing bedding with a recently treated dog.
People either use them accidentally or to save money - by splitting one dose into several ones. If you need to use flea medication on your cat only use the recommended type and brand and consult your vet if in doubt.
