month in Dundee and CAR BOOT SALES in Tayport over the summer months.

Recognising the growing need in our
communities, we led the way by launching PET AID in 2023, initially focused on
providing essential PET FOOD & SUPPLIES. Building on the success and impact
of this initiative- and along side the invaluable frontline work of our
inspectors-we expanded the programme in 2024 by introducing PET AID VETERINARY.
This offers access to FREE veterinary treatment when urgent support has been
required through our COMMUNITY ADVICE HUBS, which has been expanded even
further to include SPECIALIST BEHAVIOURAL ADVICE.
We also recognised that improving animal
welfare means supporting their owners too. With this in mind, key partnerships,
have been central to our approach. In August 2023, we partnered with Citizen’s
Advice Scotland and in October we welcomed S.A.M.H (Scottish Action for Mental
Health) and more recently Simon Community Scotland. These Partnerships help us
offer all round support within communities, providing care for both people and
their animals.
The Scottish SPCA centres around the country
are always grateful for donations of FOOD, TREATS & OTHER ITEMS to care for
the animals in their care.

need to travel long distances to get to the small islands.

both CATS & DOGS. A Fosterer gives the dog or cat the opportunity to
receive the love, care and attention they need prior to finding a PERMANENT
HOME. It’s a great way to make friends and become part of the team at EDEN
ANIMAL RESCUE.

There are many ways you can support Animal
Krackers like VOLUNTEERING IN OUR SHOP or ADOPTING AN ANIMAL, FOSTERING or just
SPREADING THE WORD.
Donations from the public are how we keep
going, but it doesn’t need to be cash, FOOD : BEDDING & TOYS for our dogs
and small furries are always welcome. These items can be taken to our shop in
Grangetown or to the cattery at Ferry Farm. We also have COLLECTION BINS in
ASDA, MORRISONS & SAINSBURYS stores in Sunderland. The CHARITY SHOP can be
found at 39 Windsor Terrace, Grangetown, Sunderland, SR2 9QF.

BURNTISLAND HEDGEHOG HAVEN
Any donations will help with the price of the
HEDGEHOG HUTCHES as well as FOOD for the hedgehogs. Of late there has been lots
of starving Hedgehogs coming in if anyone is doing their weekly shop in Aldi
this week please consider picking up one or two of their EARLS TENDER PATE dog
food sachets. The “hogs” love this food as it is soft for them to eat. Any
flavour Chicken, Lamb or Beef they are not fussy. Many Thanks.

BORDERS PET RESCUE (EARLSTON)
SLOW FEEDERS REQUIRED : We have added them to
our Amazon Wishlist but if you have any spare or can get different ones
elsewhere we would be very grateful. If you could drop them off at any of our
Charity Shops or have them delivered directly to the Rescue Centre in Earlston.
RAFFLE & TOMBOLA PRIZES are WANTED for
the events we will be attending this year. Also we would love a donation of any
bottles for our BOTTLE STALL which will take place at our DOG SHOW. Any bottles
can be handed in at any of our Charity Shops.
Borders Pet Rescue is giving animal lovers
the opportunity to SPONSOR A HEDGEHOG for £20.
NEUTERING
With
money so tight at the moment it may be worth keeping an eye out for the
subsidized NEUTERING offers that may be available in your area, or soon to
appear. Neutering is realistically the only way to help control the large
number of neglected and unwanted animals. The health and life expectancy of
NEUTERED PETS can be years longer than non-neutered pets and with less medical
issues.
NEUTERING :
WHETHER YOU HAVE A DOMESTIC PET OR FARM CATS or FERALS IN YOUR AREA, NEUTERING
IS IMPORTANT.

Finally some words of wisdom from The Cats Protection although it can
apply to all Rescues.
Just a reminder : When you are adopting a pet, please take the time to
meet the SCARED ONES, SHY ONES, ONES THAT DON’T STICK OUT, ONES WITH BORING
COLOURS OR MISSING LIMBS, OLDER ONES OR FRAIL ONES.
They have not given up they just NEED YOU and maybe you just NEED
THEM TOO!
