have been expanding in the UK and offer people a chance to speak to others with
similar problems if they wish, in a relaxed atmosphere over a
cup of tea or coffee ***
SCOTTISH S.P.C.A.
The B.B.C has been highlighting the growing challenges faced by pet
owners in accessing affordable veterinary care. At the Scottish S.P.C.A., we’ve
been aware of these pressures and were one of the first to take proactive steps
to SUPPORT PET OWNERS IN NEED.
Recognising the growing need in our communities, we lead the way by
launching PET AID in 2023, initially focused on providing essential PET FOOD
& SUPPLIES. Building on the success and impact of this initiative- and
along - side the invaluable frontline work of our inspectors-we expanded the
programme in 2024 by introducing PET AID VETERINARY. This offers access to FREE
veterinary treatment when urgent support has been required through our
COMMUNITY ADVICE HUBS, which has been expanded even further to include
SPECIALIST BEHAVIOURAL ADVICE.
We also recognised that improving animal welfare means supporting their
owners too. With this in mind, key partnerships, have been central to our
approach. In August 2023, we partnered with Citizen’s Advice Scotland and in
October we welcomed S.A.M.H (Scottish Action for Mental Health) and more
recently Simon Community Scotland. These Partnerships help us offer all round
support within communities, providing care for both people and their animals.

around 300 visitors to our Community Spaces each week we get through lots of
TEA, COFFEE DILUTING JUICE, BISCUITS & CLEANING SUPPLIES. If you would like
to donate some of these items you can do so through our Amazon Wish List or you
can drop off unopened items at the Community Spaces.

As we face the worst financial crisis in decades were urgently seeking
to help the dogs who will feel the impact. We have opened some temporary PET FOOD BANKS for anyone struggling to feed
their dog(s) in these difficult times.If there isn’t a DOGS TRUST FOOD BANK
close to you then check out the SSPCA list of FOOD BANKS.
Our Glasgow FOOD BANK is
located at 315 Hamilton Road, Glasgow G71 7SL. Opening times are from 8am –
4.30pm.
Drop off any of your pre-loved items via our contact-free DROP OFF
POINTS.
What can be accepted: Unopened and in-date dog food (wet Food), Kibble,
Tins. Unopened Dog Treats, Training Treats (Squeezy) Cheese, Peanut Butter,
Tinned Hot Dogs, Smooth Pate and Paste. Toys : Kongs and Teddies, Bedding,
Blankets and Quilts (not feathered).
Towels, Puppy Pads, Newspapers, Leads , Harnesses & Collars, Brushes
Dog Bowls and Dog Crates . The Dogs Trust cannot take Dog Buggies or
Furniture. Some of these items may be needed in your own local Dogs Trust UK it

WILDLIFE CENTRE are in need of TOWELS, SHOP VOLUNTEERS & VOLUNTEER DRIVERS.

Our RESCUE SHOP contains GOOD QUALITY GOODS. CLOTHING, LINEN, HANDBAGS,
JEWELLERY, BOOKS & BRIC-A-BRAC. All funds raised go to the NEW ARC WILDLIFE
RESCUE.
The shop is located at 42 Bridge Street, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, AB41 9AA.
You can visit the shop between 10am – 3pm from MON – SAT.
BARK (BERWICK UPON TWEED)
THE PET FOOD BANK is open MON – FRI from 10am – 2pm at Clayhole
Field Spittal, St Johns Church. Do you need help in providing food for your
pet? A hand up is not a hand- out. We’re here to help.
BORDERS PET RESCUE (EARLSTON)
SLOW FEEDERS REQUIRED : We have added them to our Amazon Wishlist but if
you have any spare or can get different ones elsewhere we would be very grateful.
If you could drop them off at any of our Charity Shops or have them delivered
directly to the Rescue Centre in Earlston.
RAFFLE & TOMBOLA PRIZES are WANTED for the events we will be
attending this year. Also we would love a donation of any bottles for our
BOTTLE STALL which will take place at our DOG SHOW. Any bottles can be handed
in at any of our Charity Shops.
Borders Pet Rescue is giving animal lovers the opportunity to SPONSOR A
HEDGEHOG for £20.
NEUTERING
With
money so tight at the moment it may be worth keeping an eye out for the subsidized
NEUTERING offers that may be available in your area, or soon to appear.
Neutering is realistically the only way to help control the large number of
neglected and unwanted animals. The health and life expectancy of NEUTERED PETS
can be years longer than non-neutered pets and with less medical issues.
NEUTERING :
WHETHER YOU HAVE A DOMESTIC PET OR FARM CATS or FERALS IN YOUR AREA, NEUTERING
IS IMPORTANT.

Finally some words of wisdom from The Cats Protection although it can
apply to all Rescues.
Just a reminder : When you are adopting a pet, please take the time to
meet the SCARED ONES, SHY ONES, ONES THAT DON’T STICK OUT, ONES WITH BORING
COLOURS OR MISSING LIMBS, OLDER ONES OR FRAIL ONES.
They have not given up they just NEED YOU and maybe you just NEED
THEM TOO!
